Weihnachten im lesothischen Bergdorf Nasaretha: Nachdem die alleinstehende 80-jährige Mantoa erfahren hat, dass ihr letzter noch lebender Sohn bei einem Minenunglück im benachbarten Südafrika ums Leben gekommen ist, hat sie nur noch einen Wunsch – sie möchte sterben und gemeinsam mit ihrem Sohn begraben werden. Doch die Pläne für ihr friedliches Ableben werden durchkreuzt, als sie von einem Dammprojekt erfährt, das ihr Dorf und den Friedhof unter einem Stausee begraben soll. Mantoa beschließt, das spirituelle Erbe ihrer Gemeinde zu verteidigen… Das bildgewaltige Drama wurde unter anderem beim Sundance Festival mit dem Spezialpreis der Jury ausgezeichnet.

Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese ist Filmemacher und Künstler aus Lesotho und derzeit ansässig in Berlin. Er arbeitet als Autor, Regisseur und Kameramann. Seine preisgekrönten Kurzfilme und Videokunst-Arbeiten wurden international präsentiert. Moseses Langfilmessay Mother, I am Suffocating. This is My Last Film About You. feierte 2019 bei der Berlinale seine Premiere. Mosese ist Alumnus von Berlinale Talents (2012) und Teilnehmer des „Focus Features Africa First“, der „Realness Screenwriter‘s Residency“, dem „Final Cut Venice“ und „Venedig Biennale Cinema College“ und „Cannes L’Atelier”.

Christmas in the Lesothic mountain village of Nasaretha: After the single 80-year-old Mantoa learns that her last surviving son died in a mine accident in neighboring South Africa, she has only one wish left – to die and be buried together with her son. But plans for her peaceful demise are thwarted when she learns of a dam project that will bury her village and cemetery under a reservoir. Mantoa decides to defend the spiritual heritage of her community… The visually stunning drama was awarded with the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival, among other festivals.

Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese is a filmmaker and artist from Lesotho and currently based in Berlin. He works as author, director and cameraman. His award-winning short films and video art works have been presented internationally. Moses‘ feature film essay Mother, I am Suffocating. This is My Last Film About You. celebrated its premiere at the Berlinale in 2019.
