Seit jeher begreift sich AFRIKAMERA als Ort der Vernetzung und des Austauschs von Know-how zwischen Filmschaffenden, Produzent*innen, Verleihern und Festivalmacher*innen sowie Nichtregierungsorganisationen aus den Bereichen Bildungs- und Wissenstransfer und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit – aus Deutschland, der afrikanischen Diaspora und den afrikanischen Ländern.
Der internationale Kulturaustausch darf auch in Zeiten von Corona nicht zum Stillstand kommen, im Gegenteil. Da Reisetätigkeiten aktuell nicht möglich sind, werden im Rahmen von Afrikamera 2020 mehrere digitale Formate präsentiert, um Wissenstransfer und Vernetzung sowohl im Nord-Süd- als auch im Süd-Süd-Austausch zu ermöglichen.

Ein Treffen mit den Mitgliedern einer neuen Kino-Initiative und Einblicke in die Entstehung eines Pilotprojekts
Was ist Kino im 21.Jahrhundert? Antworten auf diese Frage zu finden ist seit langem überfällig und hat in Zeiten der Pandemie eine neue Dringlichkeit bekommen.
Das Humboldt Forum in Berlin hat fünf erfahrene Initiativen aus Afrika eingeladen, Ideen zu diskutieren und gemeinsam praxisorientierte Konzeptionen und Strategien für das Kino als Ort der Begegnung und der Kunst zu entwickeln. Der Think Tank konzentriert sich auf ortsspezifische, realisierbare und innovative Ansätze. Es ist unsere gemeinsame Vision und Ambition, kulturelle, soziale und politische Aspekte zusammenzudenken – sei es bei der Wiederbelebung zwischenzeitlich geschlossener Kinos oder bei der Erfindung neuer Orte für Kinovorführungen – mit nachhaltigen Geschäftsmodellen.
Das Cinema Spaces Network ist ein Pilotprojekt, das auf den Prinzipien von Wissenstransfer und Erfahrungsaustausch aufbaut, in den Bereichen: Erforschung von Märkten und Bedarfsermittlung, Formen der Filmpräsentation und Erschließung neuer Zuschauersegmente. Zum einen geht es dabei um den Aufbau eines inner-afrikanischen Netzwerks zwischen den fünf beteiligten Initiativen, zugleich aber auch um den Versuch, die individuellen Projekte in den existierenden Formen des Kulturaustauschs zwischen dem Globalen Süden und Norden zu unterstützen.
Um etwas in Gang zu bringen, ist das Cinema Spaces Network zunächst auf fünf Initiativen beschränkt. Aber wir wollen kein geschlossener Club sein!
Es gehört zu unserem Selbstverständnis, von Beginn an und mit allen weiteren Aktivitäten transparent zu arbeiten, mit einer Offenheit insbesondere für Initiativen in Afrika, die ähnlich wie wir arbeiten. Aber auch für strategische Partner und Unterstützer, die unsere Leidenschaft für und den Glauben an das Kino als einen magischen Ort für Begegnungen unterschiedlichster gesellschaftlicher Gruppen teilen.

Wie wirkt sich die Pandemie in den afrikanischen Ländern auf das Kultur- und Filmschaffen konkret aus? Wie und wo vernetzen sich Filmschaffende, wenn Festivals und Austauschprogramme wegfallen? Wie geht die jeweilige Regierung mit den Auswirkungen auf Gesellschaft und Kultur um? Gibt es staatliche/internationale Unterstützung?
Fünf afrikanische Filmschaffende und Festivalleiter*innen aus unterschiedlichen Ländern haben in Corona-Statements ihre derzeitige Situation beschrieben. Junge Filmschaffende aus den afrikanischen Ländern, die sich in Medienprojekten von Weltfilme e.V. vor Ort weiterbilden können, haben ihre Sicht auf die Pandemie in Kurzfilmen verarbeitet. Deutsche Initiativen, NGO’s und Filmschaffende haben versucht, ihre Angebote in den afrikanischen Ländern während der Pandemie aufrecht zu erhalten.
In Zusammenarbeit mit Weltfilme e.V. diskutierende Filmschaffende und Festivalleiter*innen Fragestellungen zum Thema.

What is cinema in the 21st century? Finding answers to this question is long overdue and has taken on a new urgency in these times of pandemic.
The Humboldt Forum, Berlin has invited five experienced initiatives from Africa, to discuss ideas and jointly develop practice-oriented concepts and strategies for the cinema as a place. The think tank focuses on site-specific, feasible and innovative approaches. It is our common vision and ambition in this project to think together cultural, social and political aspects – be it the revival of cinemas that have been closed in the meantime or the invention of new locations for cinema screenings – with sustainable business models.
The Cinema Spaces Network is a pilot project based on the principles of knowledge transfer and exchange of experience in the following areas Research into markets and needs assessment, forms of film presentation and the development of new audience segments. On the one hand, it is about building an inner-African network between the five participating initiatives, but at the same time it is also an attempt to support the individual projects in the existing forms of cultural exchange between the Global South and North.
In order to get things moving, the Cinema Spaces Network must first of all focus on be limited to five initiatives. But: The Cinema Spaces Network does not want to be a club! It is part of our self-image to work transparently from the beginning and with all further activities, with an openness especially for initiatives in Africa, who work similar to the Cinema Spaces Network. But also for strategic partners and supporters who share the passion for and belief in cinema as a magical place for encounters between different social groups.

ART AND CULTURE IN TIMES OF COVID-19 – FILMMAKING IN AFRICA DURING THE PANDEMIC | DISCUSSION | ONLINE

How does the pandemic affect cultural- and filmproductions in African countries in concrete terms? How and where do filmmakers network with each other when festivals and exchange programs disappear? How is the respective government dealing with the effects on society and culture? Is there governmental/international support?
Five African filmmakers and festival directors from different countries have described their current situation in Corona statements. Young filmmakers from the African countries, who are able to further their education in media projects of Weltfilme e.V. on site, have processed their view of the pandemic in short films. German initiatives, NGO’s and filmmakers have tried to maintain their offers in the African countries during the pandemic.
In cooperation with Weltfilme e.V., filmmakers and festival directors discuss questions on the topic.
