In Kooperation mit AFRIKAMERA präsentiert die Initiative SUNSHINE CINEMA (Südafrika) als Teil des Cinema Spaces Network (https://cinemaspacesnetwork.net) im Festivalzeitraum zwei SUN BOXES in der Mechanischen Arena im großen Foyer, die mit einer Auswahl von Kurzfilmen bespielt werden und die die Arbeit des Cinema Spaces Networks vorstellen werden. Bestandteile der Präsentation:
– eine Kurzfilmschleife, kuratiert für AFRIKAMERA 2022 von Manyatta Screenings, Kenia
– Live-Interaktionen mit SUNSHINE AMBASSADORS über ihre Kino-Arbeit in Südafrika

Das CINEMA SPACES NETWORK (CSN) ist ein Projekt zur Stärkung der Kinoinfrastrukturen in Afrika. Auf der Grundlage des Austauschs von Fachwissen, Kenntnissen und Netzwerken treffen sich erfahrene Kinoinitiativen regelmäßig, um praktische Konzepte und Strategien zu entwickeln, mit denen das Kino als kultureller und sozialer Knotenpunkt mit ortsspezifischen Programmen, Veranstaltungen und publikumsfördernden Aktivitäten neu gedacht werden kann. Dazu gehören z. B. ein neues Verleihprojekt für afrikanische Filme, solarbetriebene Vorführtechniken und vieles mehr. Unsere aktiven Mitglieder sind in Kenia, Südafrika, Burkina Faso, der Demokratischen Republik Kongo, Sudan, Senegal und Nigeria ansässig. Das CSN wurde im Jahr 2020 vom Humboldt-Forum initiiert. SUNSHINE CINEMA ist Afrikas erstes solarbetriebenes Kinonetzwerk, das in den ländlichen Gebieten von Ostkap, Simbabwe und Malawi tätig ist. Die Vorführungen finden hauptsächlich im Freien statt. Sunshine Cinema bekämpft die Jugendarbeitslosigkeit durch ein Sunbox-Botschafterprogramm, bei dem junge Menschen zu Medienvermittlern ausgebildet und mit einem mobilen Solarkino-Kit namens “The Sunbox” ausgestattet werden. Die Botschafter mobilisieren ihre Gemeinden, um Gespräche anzuregen und aktiv für die Veranstaltungen zu werben, die von der Kraft afrikanischer Filme inspiriert sind. Zwei Botschafter werden an AFRIKAMERA teilnehmen und ihre Arbeit vorstellen: Rejoyce Legodi, Spark Impact Facilitator Trainee und Neo Mosoang, Graduate Spark Impact Facilitator.

Components of the presentation:
– a short film loop, curated for AFRIKAMERA 2022 by Manyatta Screenings, Kenya
– live interactions with SUNSHINE AMBASSADORS on their cinema activities in South Africa

The CINEMA SPACES NETWORK (CSN) is a project aiming to strengthen cinema infrastructures in Africa. Based on the principles of sharing expertise, knowledge and networks, experienced cinema initiatives regularly meet to develop practical concepts and strategies to re-think cinema as a cultural and social hub with site-specific programs, events, audience-building activities. This includes e.g. a new distribution project for African films, solar-powered screening techniques and much more. Our active members are based in Kenya, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Senegal, Nigeria. The CSN was initiated by Humboldt Forum in 2020.

SUNSHINE CINEMA is Africa’s first solar powered cinema network, operating in the rural areas of the Eastern Cape, Zimbabwe and Malawi. The screenings mainly take place outdoors. Sunshine Cinema adresses youth unemployment through a Sunbox Ambassadorship program by training young people to be media facilitators equipping them with a mobile, solar cinema kit called “The Sunbox”. The Ambassadors mobilise their communities to spark conversation and actively promote the events, inspired by the power of African films.
